Triin at Overground Music - part 2/2

-
Welcome back everyone! I hope you all had a great holiday
and let's get right into what I was up to during these last three months of internship. It was a fantastic learning experience of new skills and improving on the ones I already possessed. I was fortunate to witness all the hard work that go into promoting new singles, albums, music videos and see ins and outs of what goes into producing a live radio show.

I took part in production meetings where booking, logistics and promotion strategies were discussed and to be honest just by observing the everyday events gave me invaluable insight about teamwork and how to get things done.
I had an amazing opportunity to write compelling reviews and share them in press releases for singles and albums in English, Estonian and Russian. Let me tell you that one of the best feelings is to get good feedback on your press release that gets published in various outlets! I also got to update international press kits, research merchandise and relevant international media outlets, update mailing lists, assist at various promotional events for example large scale arena concerts where I assisted in the logistic flow of events (managing access, merchandising and backstage areas).

In addition, I was honoured to be a part of the artist selection process for the annual Mastering the Music Business Conference Showcase where we made a selection from over 500 bands from all over the world. I recommend you to check out Mastering the Music Business - it is the leading Romanian music conference and showcase event that takes place March 17-19 with an impressive list of speakers and artists: https://masteringthemusicbusiness.ro/

Networking is definitely essential

An important part of this experience was networking and making acquaintance with some amazing people in the industry. I had great opportunity to visit many concerts and networking eventslike the Global records anniversary, HBO series premiere and the number one alternative music radio station Radio Guerilla´s Birthday party just to name a few.

The exciting part is that you never know who you might run into at these events (or any other number of places for that matter) so my tip would be to have your elevator pitch ready. What do I mean by that? In a nutshell it means just what it sounds like: it's a short, well-crafted business pitch telling someone who you are and why they should want to work with you. And it’s meant to represent the amount of time you would have if you were stuck in an elevator with someone riding from the bottom of the building to the top
so keep it short and simple :)

Once in a lifetime experience

So what does it take to have a successful internship experience? Besides hard work it's important to have enthusiasm for the job at hand and attention to detail. It's also paramount to keep a positive mindset, work hard and ask questions. Always. Ask. Questions.

In conclusion, this was truly a great once in a lifetime learning experience and I’ll be forever grateful for it. I would like to thank Music Estonia and Overground Music for giving me this unique opportunity and everyone I had the pleasure to meet and become friends with along the way. Bucharest with its all glory will always have a very special place in my heart, so I hope to visit it again very soon.
